The Humboldt Transit Authority in Eureka, California, has added UTG Digital Media’s (UTG) in-vehicle digital displays to its 30+ transit service buses.  UTG’s screens are 32-inch, all-in-one, plug-and-play, high-brightness DC-powered digital vertical displays that usher in a new era of dynamic passenger information delivery.

The new displays were installed on the front of HTA’s Eureka Transit Service (ETS), Redwood Transit System (RTS), Arcata and Mad River (A&MRTS), Southern Humboldt Intercity and Willow Creek busses.  Equipped with GPS tracking and the ability to analyze passenger data, the screens offer many innovative features and automatically adapt to the surrounding light. They also accommodate multiple simultaneous data streams that can provide real-time travel information, such as when a bus will arrive at an upcoming stop, connections, schedules, local weather forecasts and news, announcements, reminders, and advertising. The displays could also be used for safety and service alerts that may impact transit service or announcements before major events.

"At UTG, we are constantly investing in digital signage innovation, as it allows us to develop technology tools that can transform any service or space into a more dynamic, green and innovative environment, as is the case with public transportation," said Alan Wehbe, founder, and CEO of UTG Digital Media.  "We are extremely excited about this opportunity to expand our digital signage capabilities through our partnership with Humboldt Transit Authority," Wehbe added.

UTG’s digital displays are available in various sizes to fit any installation area. They allow for easy uploading of video, graphics, or text to be displayed alongside other passenger information and feature an advanced all-in-one system that does not require any additional equipment, such as a USB stick, portable disk drive or laptop to update content. Updates to the displays are made in real time via remote Wi-Fi connection from Humboldt Transit Authority headquarters.

According to Greg Pratt, HTA general manager, “We were looking to improve the delivery of information on our buses and UTG’s on-board digital displays have allowed us to take an incredible leap forward and improve communication with our passengers; the UTG team has been extremely easy to work with and is very knowledgeable, professional and helpful.”

To ensure driver and passenger safety, the UTG digital system can turn on and off without any interaction from the vehicle operator or passengers. It can be programmed to turn on when the ignition is turned on and turn off when the key is removed or pre-programmed with the ability to program the frequency of each slide or video message.

UTG’s online content management system (CMS) allows users to create content be displayed remotely as a means of information delivery and to upload multimedia content using functionality via widgets to edit and add additional information. UTG’s CMS is reliable, secure, and very easy to use.
